Phnom Penh, 10 September 2024 – Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia, will lead a high-level parliamentary delegation to the People’s Republic of China from 22 to 26 September 2024, at the invitation of Honourable Mr. Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China. This visit aims to further strengthen and deepen the traditional ties, ironclad friendship, and comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations, through parliamentary diplomacy and cooperation.

Samdech Khuon Sudary will hold bilateral talks with Honourable Mr. Zhao Leji, Chairman of the National People’s Congress of China, and exchange views with other Chinese leaders. Both sides will sign a cooperation agreement and MoU to further strengthen and enhance cooperation between the two parliaments, ensuring active and comprehensive engagement for concrete results contributing to the building of the China-Cambodia community with a shared future, with a high-level, high-quality, and high-standard cooperation.

The delegation is scheduled to visit Shanghai as well, where Samdech Khuon Sudary will hold talks with the Shanghai Municipal People’s Congress and exchange views with local leaders and people to foster people-to-people ties, aiming to promote mutual understanding and practical win-win cooperation, especially to encourage comprehensive cooperation between Cambodia and Shanghai.

Other members of the delegation will also hold working meetings with their Chinese counterparts, including a meeting between the parliamentary friendship groups, the specialized commissions, and the Secretariat-General. Parliamentary cooperation between the two countries has reached an all-time high, driven by mutual respect, mutual trust, mutual understanding and mutual interest.

The People’s Republic of China is the fourth country where Samdech Khuon Sudary will pay an official visit during this 7th legislature. The previous visits include the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, the Lao PDR, the Kingdom of Thailand, and the Republic of France. Under the leadership of Samdech Khuon Sudary, the National Assembly of Cambodia has proactively engaged international friends and partners to forge partnerships for common interests, while nurturing old friends and making new friends.

Parliamentary diplomacy is important in the current context and Cambodian Parliament has played an increasingly important role in safeguarding Cambodia’s sovereignty, independence, peace and development, as well as contributing to strengthening open and inclusive multilateralism and rules-based international order
