Samdech Moha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly, and His Excellency Tibor Baloghdi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Hungary to Cambodia, stressed the importance of the two countries' long-standing friendship and cooperation, not only for the benefit of both countries and its peoples, but also for peace and stability in the region and the world, at a meeting held on the morning of February 13, 2024 at the National Assembly Palace. The National Assembly President emphasized the importance of peace and stressed that the peace that Cambodia has achieved today stemmed from the hard work and sacrifices of Samdech Techo Hun Sen and other leaders. Today, Cambodia is often considered as a model, or a case-study, for other countries to learn from in terms of the pursuit, value and maintenance of peace, particularly in a global context where war has erupted in a number of parts of the world and we are witnessing uncertainty and geopolitical confrontations.

His Excellency Tibor Baloghdi, who visited Cambodia 25 years ago, expressed his appreciation and congratulations to the Cambodian people for their rapid development in all areas. H.E Ambassador agreed with the remarks made by Samdech President of the National Assembly and emphasized that Cambodia and Hungary have the same vision and common aspiration: to increase cooperation and strengthen friendship and solidarity with all countries in the world.

With the aim of enhancing the cooperation between their respective legislatures, His Excellency Kövér László, President of the National Assembly of Hungary, cordially invited Samdech Rathsaphea Thipadei Khuon Sudary, to visit Hungary at an appropriate time. During the meeting, H.E. Ambassador handed over the invitation letter of the Speaker of the Hungary Parliament which was accepted by Samdech President.

Samdech Rathsaphea Thipadei Khuon Sudary mentioned that over the past seven decades, the historic ties of friendship and bilateral cooperation between Cambodia and Hungary have grown steadily based on the spirit of mutual trust, respect and understanding. Hungary was a good friend of Cambodia who helped Cambodia in the most difficult times soon after Cambodia’s liberation from the genocidal regime of Pol Pot in 1979. Hungary has also assisted Cambodia in all areas of social affairs, education, agriculture, and trade, and most recently during the COVID19-pandemic, wherein Hungary provided COVID-19 vaccination to Cambodia to help fight against this virus.

Samdech Rathsaphea Thipadei Khuon Sudary also touched on the education sector after the liberation on January 7, 1979, and in particular, on Hungary’s valuable contribution to the building of human resources and capacity in Cambodia. Student alumnus from Hungary have become an important resource that actively and great contributes to the national development of Cambodia today. Samdech Rathsaphea Thipadei Khuon Sudary informed His Excellency Ambassador that she used to be a student in Hungary in 1982, studying journalism.

Samdech Rathsaphea Thipadei said that Cambodia's current progress could not have been achieved without the support of our Hungarian friends. In addition, Samdech Rathsaphea Thipadei requested the Ambassador to continue to seek new opportunities and potentials for deeper cooperation in tourism, trade and investment, agriculture, digital production, innovation and so on.

At the same time, the National Assembly President also encouraged Hungary to share its experiences to small and medium enterprises (SMEs), which is a special potential area of growth for Cambodia.
